Reversal of situations

Now I know how beer feels when it sees me.

It's been a while.

I thought it was time for another fat kid post.

...hihihi!

Me

This is the face I make whenever I see Trebek use the blog for promo.

Broadcast Radio + yours truly

hey... is any of you going to the st-viateur street fest? i am...
anyway, there's this band that comes to korova every sunday night, they're basically our most reliable regulars and they always bring in a lot of people and they've been selected to play a festival in London (UK), but the fest only pays for part of the expenses so they've organized a fundraiser show this friday at main hall and i'm gonna be guest dj'ing...

the show starts at 8pm (actually that's the doors)... it's 10$ in advance, 15$ at the door, so let me know asap if you want to buy tickets beforehand... you can check them out at

F*ckstar thursdays

2 weeks ago, a promoter walked into korova while Heidy and I were spinning and came up to us, told us that he was walking down the street and heard good music and had to come up and check out the dj's... he stayed a little while and then told us that he really liked our stuff and that he was about to start a new weekly party about which he couldn't tell us much yet and took our phone numbers because he said he really thought we'd fit right into his concept...

So here it is... he's starting a new weekly night, every thursday at Sky Club in the village with DJ Frigid and Heidy and I will be guest DJ's on thursday june the 14th from 22h to midnight... this is really exciting because this new party could very well become a very hot night in montreal and the guy told us that if the people there dug us, they'd hire us more regularly!

Anyway, i think it'll just be fun to do it and then whatever happens happens... So you are all invited to Sky Club on thursday june 14 to support us and start a mad dancefloor early!!! please tell all the people you know, and tell them to get there early to catch our set... if you KNOW that you'll be there for sure, tell me and i'll put you n the guestlist... it's free to get in before 23h and then after that, i don't what'll the cover be... but please, if you do come, come at 22h!!!

I'm really excited about this!

Piernitas AKA Duke AKA Nerdcules becomes Spider

That's right, I'm now the screw up who'll clumsily stand up for himself and pay for it dearly in the end.

I'm sorry!

I couldn't keep this one secret any longer!!!

I am FURIOUS

So there will be a grève of the STM demain. Can you believe the schedule they offer us?

Message important

Du lundi au vendredi:
De 06 h 00 à 09 h 00
De 15 h 30 à 18 h 30
De 23 h 00 à 01 h 00
Samedi et dimanche

De 14 h 00 à 17 h 00
De 23 h 00 à 01 h 00

That is FANTASTIC! Those hours do not correspond in anyway to my work hours. What about the 65$ I shelled out for my bus pass? Can I get a refund since I will be walking an hour to work in the morning and the evening?

Remember the last grève? It lasted a month. I am so upset I could cry.

Finger on the Pulse

Finger on the Pulse are two brothers from New York who also happen to be very god dj's and they're gonna be in town next weekend and we've got them booked at green room on friday and at korova on sunday...

here's some stuff about them:

"Twin DJs Darin and Greg Bresnitz (aka Terry Diabolik
and DJ Never Forget) are the driving force behind
Williamsburg’s hottest DJ night: Finger On The Pulse.
Having started less then two years ago, the boys have
grown quickly in stature and DJ’d some of Brooklyn and
Manhattan’s most prominent events, including the
inaugural McCarren Pool Party, The Teddybear’s CD
release party and the relaunch of the Rated X party.
They have spent the last year traveling all over the
country as the official DJ’s for the PLUG Awards City
Highlight Tour and have spent time DJing in Europe and
Canada. The brothers also have reoccurring guest spots
on Sirius Radio’s Brooklyn Vegan radio.

Darlings of the blogosphere, FOTP has repeatedly
attracted media and crowd attention with good reason:
they play great music to dance to until the wee hours
of the night. They have continued to grow their fan
base on a national level with their weekly radio show
on Little Radio, which they broadcast out of their
apartment every Friday. Famous for their quote “we
don’t play the hits for money,” the boys play a unique
mix of cutting edge dance tracks, while still keeping
ties to their soul and rock backgrounds. The result is
a grass-roots, heart-pumping, face-melting dance party
that promises non-stop action till the lights come on.

“Dj Never Forget helps to make sure you remember all
the fun you had this summer by compiling a pretty
stellar group of songs and putting them together to
create a “summer ending mix.” ~ VH1’s Best Week Ever

“Together the duo spins a mixture of tunes you aren't
likely going to hear at any other dance party, and
when these guys are together...there usually is a
dance party.” ~ Gothamist"

Buttah

There was this girl at the Room Green that was way too hot. She was a dancing machine. I was looking at her and it made me feel that everything was alright in the world. Perfect curves, perfect moves. I bet you her vaje smelled and tasted like strawberries. I was only too happy to add the cream.

So I gathered my liquid courage and went to her,

"Are you made of butter? 'Cause you're like perfect."

This was her reaction : "No." She then quickly moved away.

I drank away the carcasse of my crushed feelings.

T.G.I.F.

TGIF -- Thank God It's Friday. It's a phrase that communicates a sad reality for many working in this economy -- the jobs we do are not rewarding, not enjoyable, and fundamentally not worth doing. We do them to survive. Then on Friday we go out and get drunk to forget about that reality, hoping we can find something during the weekend that makes it possible on Monday to, in the words of one songwriter, "get up and do it again."

Remember, an economic system doesn't just produce goods. It produces people as well. Our experience of work shapes us. Our experience of consuming those goods shapes us. Increasingly, we are a nation of unhappy people consuming miles of aisles of cheap consumer goods, hoping to dull the pain of unfulfilling work. Is this who we want to be?

-Robert Jensen

ps I had a cool pic to accompany this text, but for some reason blogger does not want to allow me to add any pictures. Capitalist bastards!

pps The robber-barons finally relented under my merciless assault.

nice website

In the spirit of PROMO madness, i thought i would share this cool website with youze guys.

It's www.madeinmtl.com

I think it's geared to tourists, but they have cute videos on Mtl curiosities and nice suggestions of bars and restaurants to check out. It's not your typical Lonely Planet site.

Anyway, definitely worth a visit.

DANGER! DANGER! DANGER!

ONLY WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES TO KILL!!!!!

!!!

!!! (chk chk chk) are playing tonight at the Saints and reviews for their tour so far are unanimous that seeing these 9 weirdos on stage is a once in a lifetime experience. Some have also called this show "the best show of the year so far" and, in my opinion, this show will only contend with 2 shows this year so far: ed banger at club soda last march and priestess/the binges at barfly a few weeks ago, and i'm still wainting to see daft punk... but i'm in no way surprised that !!! could deliver a performance that could easily rivalize with any of these shows since their latest album myth takes will most probably figure on my top 10 (if not top 3) albums of the year next december...
the tickets are 18$ for the show tonight, which is sort of steep for such a shitty venue as the Saints, but whatever, if you are financially apt, i urge you to shell the 18$ and run to this show (i don't think it's sold out yet...), even if you've never heard of these guys! Holy Fuck are also playing that show which is a plus-value...
If you don't have the money for the show, you could also attend their after-party at green room, where 2 members of the band will be spinning from around 12 or 1 until 3... not exactly the same as seeing them live, but they should defientely play some interresting and highly dancefying music...

IN OTHER NEWS!
they've finally solved the music swapping problem!!!
i found this nugget on another board, but i don't have the exact source... still pretty funny though...

"The music industry has recently unveiled a revolutionary new recording
format that they hope will help win the war on illegal file sharing,
thought to be costing the industry millions of dollars in lost revenue.

Nicknamed the 'Record', the new format takes the form of a black, vinyl
disc measuring 12 inches in diameter, which must be played on a
specially designed 'turntable'.

"We can state with absolute certainty that no computer in the world can
access the data on this disc," said spokesman Brett Campbell. "We are
also confident that no-one is going to be able to produce pirate copies
in this format without going to a heck of a lot of trouble. This is
without doubt the best anti-piracy invention the music industry has ever
seen."

As part of the invention's rigorous testing process, the designers gave
some discs to a group of teenage computer experts who regularly use
file-swapping software such as Limewire and gnutella and who admit to
pirating music CDs. Despite several days of trying, none of them were
able to hack into the disc's code or access any of the music files
contained within it.

In the new format, raw audio data in the form of music is encoded by
physically etching grooves onto the vinyl disc. The sound is thus
translated into variations on the disc's surface in a process that
industry insiders are describing as 'completely revolutionary' and
'stunningly clever.'"

Why I'm never in pictures

I invite you all to direct your peepers towards the picture below. It suggests a grand old time full of puerile shenanigans and soused tomfoolery. Dare I say, it is an artfully executed exposé of our many moments of freakish conduct.

Now, if you look closely, you might see a man in gray in the background. He is perfectly centered and at a sensible distance. But make no mistake: despite his portrait-like stance, he is still in the background. That man is me. Thankfully, the photographer knew better than to capture a dull moment of idle chitchat between myself and one of my bearded peers.

You see, I theorize that, to save his or her own artistic integrity, the picture taker in question felt the need to add a boorish lout popping out of the upper left-hand corner of the frame. But the man was no mere lout, mind you. Surely, he was an assistant, a model if you will, who, knowing full well that conventional beauty is often times overindulged, took it upon himself to incarnate the antithesis of resplendency. His raw skill and bravado led him to deliberately overexpose his features thus revealing a singular shade of pale weak magenta blemished only by a confronting jaw, an intruding nasal fixture and the haunting brutish gaze of Boris Karlov. He risked it all by blocking the remainder of my face with that which even his own modesty could not deny: his solar flair locks. But he came out triumphant.

In the end, this depiction successfully emphasizes the lunacy of our ways by obscuring any hint of artificial civility that might have otherwise emerged. The artist has finally captured what is constantly sought after by others, the essence of truth.

Good News for Me!

I managed to blackmail a journal into publishing me. Nice. Now I can finally leave you rats in the sewer where you belong. I'm GOING UP!

this is me now

Anybody remember Joe-Ann's number? I'm thinking she'll take me back as a friend now that I have this new found glory.

Help!

Could you guys please help me? Trebek got angry because I lost my phone and could not answer him when he called. When he saw me, he made me do bad things. Touch no-no places. If I were a public service ad in the metro, I would be a badly drawn boy pointing to my bum, saying "bobo".

Wallball

Listen up! If your gonna play this game, play it right!

Duke, you're slackassing!
Cassinova, you're assslacking!
Ram, you're lookin' good!

I felt bad for Duke who must have fucked with some witch; in turn, she cursed him with never being in pictures and/or looking listless so I added this one.

Duke, you're a real go-getter!
Cassinova, you're lollygagging!
Ram, quit looking/acting like Obélix!

Vidéo que j'ai trouvé extra drôle, surtout au début.

Went to the Numéro # and Omnikrom show last night. Rocked hard.

But I also went to the bathroom, for numéro # 2.

The pictures I took will give an hors-d'oeuvre-style peak at my ordeal.

birthday plans!!!

as you may or may not know, it's my birthday thursday... sooo.... if you feel like spending time (drunk) with me for the occasion (or not), here is what i was planning to do this week.
first of all, wednesday, of course, i'm going to see lcd soundsystem at spectrum. you should come cause it's gonna rock!
thursday, i'm rocking it the old school way at foufs' ladies night where i'll try to dance with as many 17 year old emo chicks with weird haircuts as possible.
friday, i'll be mixing music with heidy at green room and it should be pretty pretty wild!
saturday, i'm going to see blonde redhead (although i'd like to see plastic little, but i may try to catch both)...and before and after the show i've got nothing going on.
sunday, i'm mixing with heidy again at korova and it should get pretty wild too!! there was some talk about specials on shots for the occasion, but i'll have to get back to you on that.

I ALSO KNOW IT'S JOKER'S BIRTHDAY SUNDAY, SO IT'S HIS BIRTHDAY WEEKEND AS WELL!!!!!!
but since we haven't really talked about that yet, maybe we could try to coordinate something! in any case, dude, i'll give you some drinks both at green room and at korova!

Not an urban myth.......

I still CANNOT believe it.

I went to the movies and some guy behind me ANSWERED HIS CELLPHONE and did not use his indoor voice or rather MOVIEVOICE and said *I"ll call you back I am at the movies*.... Got up, disturbed a whole row of people and then went to call the person back.

Then he came back and asked his wife what happened while he was gone. He kept talking until the person next to me had the guts to ask him to stop talking, which he did....for a few minutes. He then continued talking to wife but in another eastern european language!

GARDE À VOUS!

You guessed. Nerdcules works fast. What do you except from the King of Nerds? He's already assembled a crack team of nerds. Here's one of their instructional posters to be found around N-1 Compound (N stands for Nerdcules and 1 is for that magic that is one. Divided by it's self, it remains the same. Multiplied by it's self, it ALSO stays the same. Essentially its Nerdculean for All for One, One for All.)

Duke becomes Nerdcules

I thought that this picture of Kevin Sorbo as some captain in some subpar daytime space show might do justice to the new identity I have acquired thanks to Shipwreck's creative spark.

Nerdcules Sponsored!

Boy, does news ever travel fast around here, or what?

Nerdcules Goes for the Big Gulp!

Food porn

So I went to Super Sex with my co-workers including my boss's boss today for lunch. It was to celebrate a colleague’s end of bachelorhood. It was supposed to be a rowdy romp but had turned into an overdrawn moment of silent awkwardness. Apparently, aside from the free hot and cold buffet, Super Sex has become ghetto ass and creepy. And yes, among others, I was subjected to a 10$ lap dance. I don’t know about you guys but having some stranger’s tits and ass in my face in front of people you normally interact with on a professional level is not my idea of a good time. It was more of a humiliating spectacle for all parties involved. And that one overpriced beer did not help us reach that much sought after state of inebriated camaraderie. Props go to the boss for encouraging the effort, though.

Going Up!!!

In the immortal words of Yvan Peeling, we're "GOING UP!".

Montreal's got a new airport, check it out. Its even in another country!

Montreal's U.S. Airport

And in case you don't believe me, they even have it in French!

don't feed the octopus...

see???

Warning

Now that zoo season is just around the corner, here's a quick reminder to all you idiots not to feed the animals!

This is actually the zookeeper's hand. He's allowed to feed the animals, and look what happenned to him!

Boo-hoooooooooo.

Ooooooooooooo, what a bunch of sensitive little girls. Did you all decide to slam me while doing each other's nails, watching Dirty Dancing, and passing around Advil and Midol? Did Tony The Tiger take a crap in your Frosted Flakes? Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Oh, and Duke, only hipster Mile-Enders and high school students use abbreviations like WTF.

the guy who knew very little and assumed he knew best...

last week, i went to the dep at around 22h50. and last week, on saturday night, was the night of the saboteur ball. for those who don't know saboteur is the very imaginative label who's brought us dj champion (sigh)...
i'll admit that, as much as this label used to suck terrible balls, mostly because of the major douchebag who started it (i won't name him by his name because i've already gotten in trouble with this sort of stuff in another blog...). well, the guy's a pretentious moron who likes shitty music. so, as much as it used to suck huge balls, nowadays, with the recent addition of numéro# and omnikrom, i guess we can say that suck smaller balls.
but anyway, this is enough for me to absolutely know that i'd never want to go near a saboteur event (oops, i'm going to omnikrom's album launch tonight...) in my life, simply because this label, having been propelled by champion's success (sigh), attracts the very kind of people who listen to champion... duke, these are the people who wear matching baseball caps, buy matching lycrs suits and strollers, go to edgar and baldwin's...
so i was at the dep that's just by the sala rossa on st-laurent, at 22h50, the night of the saboteur ball, and, of course, there was a huge line up. so there i was, standing in line with my 12-pack, surrounded by a bunch of people who were obviously going to this thing. i could tell because of the numerous von dutch baseball caps, among other things.
right behind me stand a 40 year old gay bachelor (there was no way that any guy would ever want him for a partner) and his secretary, or something, who was a dumb 35-40 year old st-jérôme expat... at the beginning, i wasn't listening to their conversation, but then i overheard what was being said behind me and noticed that the guy was giving a music history 101 lesson to the girl... he seemed particularily fond of what he called "techno music"... at one point, he admited that techno music certainly hadn't reinvented the wheel, but almost had, and that it was a product of the late 1980's. then he started to talk about his roomate who listens to "indie music", which, the guy said, was absolutely unimaginative and nothing but a copy-paste of R.E.M. and U2 who, as everyone know, were the true talents in music since the beatles (yes, he said that) and who strived to innovate and find new ways to play interesting music. nowadays, he said, musicians can only copy what had been done before. then the girl said something i couldn't quite understand, at which point the guy said "no, you're referring to electronic music... they also use guitars... and you know who invented that? CHAMPION, a montrealer..." and the girl to add "oh yeah??? that's great!!!"
so there you have it, before champion, no one ever used guitars or real instruments in electro music.
and that, my friends, is why i tell you that people like stuff that they either don't know, or even worse, that they can't even tell you why they like it.

Blog It Up!

Hey guys!

As some of you may be aware, this is the time of the year for the Montreal Mirror's annual Best of Montreal readers' poll.

Best of Montreal!

One of the questions is about the best local blog. Get off your apathetic asses and fill in the 19! Wooha!

And anyways, its fun simply to participate and voice your opinion. For best souvlaki, I went for Villa du.
