well, yes and no... coal and petrol are getting less cost effective and solar is getting more cost effective. It could be feasible that in a few year's time households could more than offset the energy demands of transportation with solar panels.
I agree though, this alone isn't a panacea. But it could become one with existing or very near future technology.

Yet, once again we are omnibulated by tech. As much as I think this is a step forward, I feel we also need to keep our critical thinking hat on.
This engine needs to be plugged in to the electricity grid.
Number two sources of electricity in the world, in no order: coal, petrol.
